III. Minutes of Previous Meeting: Linda motioned, Jean 2nd to approve minutes - carried.
IV. Membership Dues for 2008 and Pilot Project - Last meeting it was approved to raise membership dues to $100.00 with $60.00 going to NADSA. Concern expressed by Linda in Menno about paying more than the $25.00 associate membership. We can still have the associate membership offered with voice but no vote. Discussion was held about the association covering $25.00 toward to cost for the member facilities this year. Linda Ford motioned that the State Association pay $25.00 of the National fee of $60.00 for the first year that this relationship with NADSA exists for existing members of our State Association. We will still allow associate membership at $25.00 and they would still receive discount to State events. Deb 2nd and motion passed.
V. National Convention Report: Dena reported that She and Molly went to the State Association Directors Meeting and found out that a lot of states pay anywhere from $300.00 to $2000.00 for their State Association dues. They also made the decision to not stay associated with AHASA. Linda attended a meeting on using your current facility to promote social and activity interaction and offered a lot of things you can do without spending a lot of money to remodel or rebuild. Linda and Dena both went to this one and they have a book about these ideas. Linda also went to a session to improve performance. The emphasis was to continually ask questions of your staff until they can tell you in detail what and why they do what they do. You can also take it into the groups you are doing and ask more questions to keep probing into the group to get more information. (Tim Wright was the speaker).
Deb attended a session by Jed Johnson of Easter Seals on working with people with disabilities. This session focused on those with MS and TBI. Deb will do a write up and send it to everyone.
VI. Best time and place for meetings: Leave it the 3rd Friday of the month, quarterly beginning in January.
VII. Report from Members: Dena - numbers down a bit - usually 6-7 participants with 2 or 3 per day. Maryjo - Has 10 Enrolled with good day of 7 and low of 3. Has been at a real low. Linda N. - Has 4 in Adult Day Care on a regular basis, 2 part-time and one respite that comes and goes and stays overnight when wife needs a break. Jean K. has one enrolled - downs syndrome under 60. Has more and more that enroll that drop in and one VA drop in. Linda F has 16 enrolled and has to turn people away on certain days because they are full. For last 1 ½ years has been steadily increasing. Not sure why. Just enrolled 200th person in the program. She thinks it is mostly word of mouth that gets people to their door. Deb G. has 50+ enrolled and average 23-26 per day. Numbers have been steadily increasing recently. The number of daily drop-in's has increased where people just show up without calling ahead. Sioux Falls is also seeing an increase of the under 60 population.
